Have you felt fairly certain that parenthood isn’t for you, but still find yourself wondering, “What if?” Maybe you’ve always leaned toward not having kids, but your choice has been met with warnings of future regret. Whether you’re confidently child-free by choice, still unsure, or feeling pressured by family, partners, age, or the expectations around you, it can be difficult to separate what we truly want from what we’ve been taught to want.
In this workshop, we’ll explore the realities of living child-free by choice and questioning the pronatalist script, from the social conditioning and assumptions that shape how we think about having kids, to common myths and stereotypes about child-free adults, and the less-discussed experiences of guilt, grief, uncertainty, and changing relationships. We’ll also consider what makes a life meaningful beyond traditional expectations, and how values, identity, and personal choice can shape a fulfilling life without parenthood.
In this in-person workshop, you will walk away with:
A greater understanding of pronatalism, social expectations, and common myths and assumptions surrounding parenthood and choosing not to have children
A greater understanding of why choices that diverge from social expectations can bring complicated emotions and relationship changes, along with language for navigating them
Reflective tools for separating your own values and desires from external expectations and considering what makes a life feel meaningful to you
This workshop is for adults who are:
Child-free by choice
Questioning whether they want children
Feeling uncertain about parenthood
Simply curious about how much of their vision for adulthood comes from their own values versus societal expectations
Spaces are limited. Reserve your spot now!
Many of our Community Giving Workshops are free to attend, but donations are welcome. All donations—no matter how big or small—go directly to supporting the Pregnancy and Infant Loss Support Centre, a charity that provides no-cost support for those who have experienced pregnancy loss, the loss of a child, or infertility.
